Yesterday was Earth Day and what better way is there than to celebrate it with another recycle DIY, am I right? Not long ago we still had an IKEA MICKE desk in our apartment that we just recently sold to make room for a dining table. We live on 45 square meters in an apartment under the roof. Which makes it extra tiny due to the roof sloping! I’ll post an update on our new living room layout soon but first let’s get back to that MICKE office desk. Funny as it is I owned the exact same one in the same color combination in Wiesbaden which I sold when I moved in with Chris. But we still had the one at his place.
We didn’t have any ceiling lamps yet so we needed a desk lamp for the MICKE to at least see something when it’s dark out. We totally like the style of the IKEA RANARP lamps so we got one as a desk lamp. We didn’t get the one with the foot but the one to screw at the wall for two reasons:
The IKEA MICKE desk as a hole in it for all the cables to go through. But who says only cables can go through it?
We went into the woods and found a really pretty branch that was just thick enough to fit trough the MICKE desks hole. The branch was way too long though. We didn’t had a saw on hand and it was too thick to just break through by hand so we took the whole branch home with us. Luckily it fit in our car. Once we measured the length that we liked we sawn a piece off. Then all we did was attaching the IKEA RANARP lamp to the piece of branch et voilà we got ourself a bohemian style desk lamp!
The trick: The MICKE desk has a little board underneath the hole where cables and charging station can be placed. This is where the branch stood on so it didn’t just fell through.
We really like this organic looking Lamp DIY. Do you have any IKEA hacks?
