Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe

Fall is here and so is Pumpkin Pie Spice everything! I love everything Pumpkin related, honestly who doesn’t? Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. I love the look of the trees with all their beautiful red-orange tones and weather that is still warm but not scorching hot.

Pumpkin Pie Spice gives a nice flavor profile to many baked goods as well as coffee. Pumpkin Spice Latte anyone? Unfortunately as so many other things Pumpkin Pie Spice is something not really common here in Germany and you won’t find it in any store. Yes that’s the harsh reality.

But fear no more! It’s easier than you think to make homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice. Couldn’t believe it myself but all it takes is a few traditional spices that most of us have at home any time of the year. Just blend them together and you will have that pixie dust always at hand.

Don’t let the name fool you (as it did me at first). There is absolutely zero Pumpkin in Pumpkin Pie Spice. Don’t blame me for believing otherwise. I didn’t even know Pumpkin Pie Spice existed before I moved to the US in 2010. 😀 But luckily now I know better and I have this recipe in store for you!

Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon,
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 ½ teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cloves

Mix the spices together in a clean small jar or spice container. Shake and you’re done. Yes I know it’s really that easy. Store it in a dark place with all your other spices. It will be good for up to 1 year.

Another benefit of making your own homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice it is way cheaper than a store bought jar. You can also vary the amounts of spice to your liking. Prefer a stronger cinnamon flavor? Go for it and add another 1/2 teaspoon to the mix.

We really like mixing our own spices around here. Have you ever tried making your own Vanilla Sugar? It’s also super simple!
