IKEA Hack: Upgrade your Avskild Cork Coasters

Cork is all the rage right now in the interior department. You can see it everywhere: cork walls, cork fabric, cork boards and so on. I do love cork. In my kids room at my parents I had cork flooring and I sure loved it! So I was wondering how I can integrate cork into our new apartment without breaking the bank. I found this cute Avskild Cork Coasters at IKEA for approximately 50 cents. I sure liked how that sounded. But the coasters looked way to plain just the way they were. Which actually screamed for a DIY. And it is such a cheap one too! Let me show you how to upgrade your Avskild Cork Coasters in just 5 minutes and for less than 3$. You will need:

First you have to figure out a design you like. I actually traced the circle on paper first and doodled around until I found a pattern that I thought was pretty enough to make it onto the cork coasters. Than all you need is to use your marker to trace the pattern directly onto the coasters. Make sure to use a waterproof marker as you don´t want your design to wash away when something is spilled. You could also use a black marker or any other color you prefer. I just like the Scandinavian feel the white marker and the cork create. Actually this tutorial is easy enough to make with kids too! It can be a great afternoon activity. Also they make a terrific gift for family and friends.
